Meet Team Uganda 2013...
Tomorrow morning (October 6th), the 11 members of Team Legacy Uganda [Tim, Donna, and Desiree Borruel, Stacie & Heather Zorichak, Mike & Erin Augusta, Mike Marino, Laura Sylvies, Dhon Wellons, and Adam Tyson] will depart on a week-long mission trip to Uganda, Africa.
We will be working alongside the Hurley Family and SOS Ministries as they minister to the teachers and students at Legacy Christian Academy Uganda. Founded in 2002, SOS Ministries is a Christian non-profit organization which seeks to provide humanitarian aid and biblical training to all those in need, focusing on the people of Uganda. Shannon Hurley founded SOS Ministries after seeing the overwhelming physical and spiritual needs of the Ugandan people. Uganda is considered one of the top three poorest nations in the world, with 52% living on less than $1.25 a day. These needs primarily are a result of the horrific reign of Idi Amin Dada in the 70′s, the devastating results of the AIDS epidemic, and a continued culture of poverty, single-parent families, alcoholism, and various parasitic false religions promising wealth and health.
The future of Uganda’s children living and growing up in these conditions provides little escape from the cycle of poverty continuing on to the next generation. This is why in February of this year, SOS Ministries was also able to open their school, Legacy Christian Academy Uganda, (a sister school of Legacy Christian Academy in Valencia, CA). Through SOS Ministries, Legacy Christian Academy, and the work the Hurley family has been doing over the past 10 years, the love of our Savior has been taught and shown to the Ugandan people. Legacy Uganda is helping to provide these poverty stricken children with opportunities through their academic programs as well as teaching the character of God and the hope of the Gospel.
As we prepare for our trip we would ask that you would partner with us in prayer. Please pray that God would be glorified, that the lives of the children would be changed and impacted by the Gospel and that the SOS & Legacy Uganda staff would be blessed and encouraged by us. Please pray that our time spent in the school, at the orphanage, at the church and in the surrounding villages would all be for God’s glory. Lastly, please pray for safety and unity for our team.
